This is part of a multi-part advertisement shown from different perspectives….

Check the related videos for the other 2…

Notice the car alarm goes of WAY before the spool hits it…. Blooper :D

I don’t think the car alarm is a blooper. The impact of the crash made it go off.

Still can’t get over how calm this guy is…

    must be an important call.

Nah, it went off too late (well after the spool crashed thru the doors….)

I’m thinking the plan was, spool crash thru doors, roll to car, alarm goes off etc making it look like not only the doors are trashed but the car damaged too… But the spool rolled too slowly and messed up the timing… still funny commercial :)

Dude, It’s an ad. Everything in it is controlled. The car alarm was added in post–exactly where it makers intended.

The fact that you think it should be sooner (or later) just means they misjudged how people (or at least you) would interpret the alarm.

Nope, I think the ad was designed to be an exact certain length (for advertising purposes) so they had the events set in advance. The spool simply rolled too slowly, but it was “good enough” and fit the slotted time. The alarm was intended to imply the car was hit by the spool; that’s clear.

You sound like you really know your stuff. Do you make ads for a living?

  10. #10 by KrK007 at April 29th, 2008

    Sometimes, yes.

IMHO this is a great ad, especially the novel approach of filming it from several different people’s viewpoints at the exact same time, all while not getting any of the production crew or equipment in frame. And the ad is funny, and people remember funny. :)

Couldn’t it be the building alarm instead? If a building has been fitted with detectors that make contact as soon as windows are shattered, it might trigger the alarm. JMHO.

    This is a virus video..

Has nothing to do with microsoft :P

It was indeed set up, Theres actually 2 different copies of this, a view from inside the building and outside.. the alarm heard is a car alarm which really did go off due to the sound wave of the window breaking..

It was just a stunt that was set up.. do some research :P
