I’ve got a Nokia 6300 but i am going travelling in Japan in a month. Will anyone know if my phone will actually work over there? Currently i’m on Tesco pay as you go network but that doesn’t cover Japan. What network is best for me to go on?
What network and phone allows you to use your phone in Japan?

Quad band and 3G phones work in Tokyo. I know for certain that Vodafone and O2 has a roaming agreement with Tokyo so if the 6300 is quad band it should work out there.
The Nokia sight states the below info:-
Operating frequencyOperating frequencyGSM/EDGE coverage (900/1800/1900; 850/1800/1900) which makes me think it’s only a tri-band.
You can also rent mobiles in Tokyo, there is a kiosk at the airport but if you are checking in to a hotel you can have the phone sent there ready for pick up – they also provide an envelope for you to send it back to them and they bill you (accurately!) a few weeks later.
http://www.rentafonejapan.com is the company my company has used without hitch numerous times in the past.

The Nokia 6300 is a GSM tri-band phone, however Japan does not have a GSM mobile phone service so the phone will not work there.
If you had a 3G phone and your UK network had a roaming arrangement with Japan then that would work but as the other poster said, your best bet is going to be to rent a phone while you are out there if you need a mobile.
To answer the original question, Three allows you to use your UK phone in Japan (but only pay monthly not a pay as you go phone.)
