What wireless router should I buy with Tiscali Broadband?

I have Tiscali Broadband but would like to buy a wireless router so we can move freely throughout the house. Which one should I buy (I’d ideally like a less expensive option if possible)? Also, what is the process for setting up the wireless connection if there is one?

If you are a novice to this then I would suggest you go to tiscali’s web site and see which routers are supported by them. The reason I suggest this is because these will be supported by a cd that will help you set up for tiscali, or you will be able to download a setup program that will help set the router up. Wireless routers and wireless modem routers are difficult to set up if you have not done it before so, I would strongly advise that you do the above.

This page is intended for Tiscali Broadband Customers who are using a router. USB modems come pre-configured and as such do not need any of these settings entered.

Depending on the make of router the information you need to enter will vary but there are some basic settings that are the same for all routers.

    These are the following:

    Virtual Circuit Identifier – VCI
    38

    Virtual Path Finder- VPI
    0

    Encapsulation Mode
    VCMux

    Authentication Type
    CHAP

    Protocol
    PPPoA (RFC 2364:PPP over ATM)

    Modulation Type
    G.DMT or Auto

More often than not these settings can be entered through the Router’s setup Wizard.
Depending on your router model the setup Wizard maybe accessed through a CD supplied with the router or through a web page or both.
To access the web page for your router you should have an IP address that is supplied with the router. This IP address needs to be entered in to the address bar of your browser (Internet Explorer / Firefox).

The following table details the main ADSL router manufactures and the settings for connecting to the routers web based configuration screen. Some manufactures have a username and password security screen some do not. To go to the manufacturers web site simply click the name of the manufactures you wish to visit.
