Editorial: Gartner Using Crystal Ball For Mobile Computing Forecast

www.netbooknews.com Gartner has come out with its latest round of mobile computing predictions and its clear that they must be using a crystal ball to come up with their predictions. Roberta Cozza of Gartner is a self proclaimed “Mobile Device” specialists who produces regular Press Releases making predictions on the long term direction of the mobile computing ecosystem. Let’s take a look at September 10th, 2010 a mere 8 months ago. To remind you of the facts that were already on the tablet back in September we’re shocked that she could have come up with the facts and figures below. Back then we already know about Windows Mobile 7, the problems between Nokia & Intel were already brewing and pretty much any smartphone hobbiest could have told you that Symbian was a dead end or at least loosing its luster. Even with these facts on the table Roberta made the following statement for a 4 year prediction The worldwide mobile OS market is dominated by four players: Symbian, Android, Research In Motion and IOS. Launch of updated operating systems – Such as Apple iOS 4, the BlackBerry OS 6, 3 and Symbian Symbian 4, and Windows Mobile 7 – will help maintain strong growth in smartphones in 2H10 and 2011 and spur innovation.

Anyone want an extra 250MB back up space on dropbox?

The referring links from dropbox gives you an extra 250MB if you sign up from them, as opposed to the standard 2GB you get from going in through the main page.

If you don’t know what DropBox is it’s cloud computing stuff at it’s best

Dropbox is software that syncs your files online and across your computers

Put your files into your Dropbox folder on one computer, and they’ll automatically appear on any of your other computers that also have Dropbox installed (Windows, Mac, and Linux too!). You can even download Dropbox apps for your smartphone or mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Android, and Blackberry).

If you’re editing a document in your Dropbox folder. As soon as you press Save, Dropbox will sync this file to all your other computers and mobile devices instantly and automatically. It’s as if you saved the document to all of your computers at the same time. This gives you the freedom to work anywhere and always have the files you need.

Any file you put into your Dropbox folder is automatically backed up on their servers. Even if your computer has a melt-down, your files are safe on Dropbox and can be restored at any time.
