The Broadband Internet: A Three Part Series – Part 3 of 3

Broadband III July 12, 2001 On July 12, 2001 the Internet Caucus Advisory Committee hosted its third and final event in our Broadband Series — Broadband III. A filled-to-capacity room of congressional Members and staff heard from our expert panel on Tax Incentives and Broadband Cable Access. It marked the completion of our Broadband Series. Congressman Rick Boucher, Co-Chairman of the Internet Caucus, opened the event with remarks on Broadband Cable Access. Our moderator, Jim Berger of CityNet Telecommunications, then directed the two panels on Tax Incentives and Broadband Cable Access. Adam Thierer from the CATO Institute and Kevin Hassett from American Enterprise Institute disagreed about the efficacy of tax incentives in spurring broadband deployment during the first panel. The second panel included experts on the Broadband Cable Access issue and included: – Rick Cimerman, National Cable Telecommunications Association – Julia Johnson, Former Chair, Florida Public Service Commission – Gene Kimmelman, Consumer Federation of America – Joan Marsh, AT&T – Greg Simon, Simon Strategies netcaucus.org
