The Gadgets You Don’t Want To Get This Christmas

The modern technological landscape is unrecognisable compared with that of the one 10 years ago. With the improvements in technology have come improvements in our household gadgets. There are have been advances in things such as cooking equipment, home entertainment and Internet access. That said, with every good thing there comes bad, and there have been lots of gadgets over the years that have given technology a bad name.
Well now, Sheila’s Wheels has conducted a survey to find out which gadgets really are the worst gadgets of all time. It transpired that there were quite a few terrible gadgets that made the shortlist, but the one that proved to be the worst was the shower radio.
The sorry excuse for a gadget was awarded the crown of worst gadget of all time due to a number of factors. The first one being that they regularly broke because water would leak into the batteries. On top of this, most of the radios suffered from poor sound quality, difficult usability and volumes so low that they are impossible to hear over the noise of the running water.
Other pointless gadgets that made it into the top ten worst gadgets of all time included the following:
- Electric candles
- Electric nail file
- Soda stream
- Teasmaid
- Pancake maker
- Fondue set
- Electric fluff remover
- Facial tanner
- Egg slicer
Alongside the survey for the worst gadgets of all time also came the best gadgets of all time. These findings were not too much of a surprise really. The most popular was the television, with gadgets like the washing machine, toaster and vacuum cleaner also performing well. It is clear to see that the gadgets considered best, were those that save lots of time or have a big impact on people’s lives. Fortunately, not all gadgets are terrible and the ones that aren’t can make great gifts. Items like sunrise alarm clocks and candy grabbers are great fun to have around the house. However, if you’re looking for gadgets that aid everyday life, maybe emergency chargers would be better.
i-phone continues to do well

The iPhone seems to be selling more and more by the day, but just why is this? Well it’s quite simple, it seems to be one of the top notch gadgets money can buy so it is going to sell.
The iPhone is a phone and I-pod all mixed in together and that is really only the beginning, It also has internet access, Facebook, E-mail, and the now famous App store. One of the good things about the App store is that it is every changing and always growing, part of the reason Apple have made so much money from it.
{Recently 02’s exclusive two year contract with Apple has run out and Vodaphone as well as Orange have both stepped in to snap up deals with them}. Next year these companies are going to be allowed to actually put the phone on sale. However are they going to see a change in the people buying the phone, are people likely to buy the phone simply because another provider is set to sell the phone? People have a favourite provider that is certain so perhaps a few extra sales will be on the way in the New Year.
There is one other thing that comes to mind when thinking of the iPhone and that is the costs. The cost of the phone itself isn’t cheap and can be even worse if it breaks and you do not have something like Gadget Insurance. The problem with insurance is that it costs a lot of money and just sits there until you need it and even then you may never use it. Everyone drops the phone at one stage and it could be that you drop yours on concrete and it smashes. Personally I have dropped mine about five times and it has managed to survive so it is possible not to have insurance although I would reccomend it.
Of course there are insurance policies available for a number of things from laptop insurance as well as the obvious iPhone insurance. However if you were to insure your gadget it could save you money in the long run.
Protect Your Wallet From Gadget Failures

Technology these days to amazing, no question about it. With new recent breakthroughs in the form of the new iPhone being able to recognise voice recognition to the new announcement that Microsofts Project Natal for the Xbox 360 is set to have full body motion sensing capabilities with no wires and nothing plugged into you in any way at all.
However, what do you do when something go wrong? In some cases, the costs to repair the gadgets can be more than you initially paid for them. For many of the cases, it’s down to the way the product has been made and that’s how the problem has occured. Although the Xbox 360 is a powerful console in which critics have named so far the best console of the new generation it does fail in one major thing. The 3 red rings. Now to any Xbox 360 owner, when they see the three red rings, it’s just the same as handing your wallet over to a thief. Unless you are still within your warranty you are looking at paying at least 50 to have to send it off to be repaired for a problem that should not have been there in the first place.
It was very rare if one of your older consoles ever broke like the N64 or Playstation 1, but now we are not just seeing Xbox 360 failures, a large amount of PS3’s and Nintendo Wii’s are also being sent away to be fixed. It could be down to more people are playing games due to the huge amount being released within the last few months, or, it could be down to the manufacturers not fixing the problems and just selling more machines.
There are solutions now to avoid you having to fork out the cash and it comes from gadget insurance. You can protect for 20 pound each month and that will allow you to cover any 5 of your chosen gadgets. Although the price does seem high, it’s alot less than if you had to repair just one of your gadgets each month. This is mainly because if you were ever to drop one of your gadgets like an iPhone, it would set you back around 100 pound to repair. So if you think about it, having to 20 pound each month to protect your 5 gadgets is not as pad as having to pay 100 pound to repair something that you can break over and over again. Also, for fixing items like a Nintendo Wii, they tend to charge you more money than you actually paid for the console to begin with.
Of course if it is just the one product you want to insure, even if it’s not a gaming console, you can simply pay for iPod insurance seperately. Unfortunately, a great deal of home emergency insurance policies don’t cover any damage or theft to your gadgets.
Has the mobile gone too far?

A recent online poll has shown that British people are addicted to (not drugs, alchohol or anything like that) thier mobile phones. Research has shown that 88% of people do not leave their homes without their mobile phone. This just goes to show that without things like mobile phones in thier pockets people would be lost. This also means that 53,658,000 phones are carried around in bags and pockets in the streets of the UK every single day. In truth Britain sends over 1 Billion texts a week putting us into the top 6 for texting in the world which is ridiculous considering Britain is such a small country.
The poll went on to say that over anything else a mobile is the one thing we will always take with us even over a wallet or purse which is certainly an eye opener. Funnily enough the midlands saw the best/worst result depending on how you look at things with a massive 98% of people saying they carried it with them every single day.
The main question to ask is why? It really is rather simple. The amount of things a mobile phone can now do is astronomical ranging from a simple text or call to checking the bank details online or even getting insurance quotes. Phones are becoming more and more advanced by the year with some having either MP3 within the phone itself or in the case of the I-Phone an actual I-pod included within the phone! As well as this you can now watch television as well as your favourite film all from the touch of a button on the phone as well as look at quotes from different car insurance firms!
Of course it does mean that muggings have risen simply because there are more phones out there to take as well as the question are we becoming far too dependent on technology? It wasn’t like this 30 years ago and it seems to be that younger generations are becoming increasingly lazier.
If technology is your thing then why not look for gadget insurance to make sure your favourite new gadget is protected against anything and everything!
