Posted by 0845 Telephone Numbers in General on July 30th, 2009
The popularity of portable gadgets is sky rocketing. Wireless Internet access (WiFi) has increased its area of coverage. The portable gadgets are becoming even handier with this development. Portable gadgets include portable media players, laptops, the Ultra Mobile PC or netbooks. Contents can now be easily downloaded from the Internet. VCD or DVD movies, for instance, can be easily converted into digital formats with special software. Portable devices have become a part of work and lifestyle, and a personal travel companion. Portable devices include portable video players, digital audio players, personal digital assistant and digital video recorders.
An electronic gadget, the portable media player stores and plays digital media. Though essentially a digital audio player, the portable media player can play videos and display images. There are also mobile phones that have these functions and are also known as portable media player. Archos was the first portable media player to be widely sold. This was in 2002. Most of the portable media players accommodate MP3 audio format. Some of them also support Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), Windows Media Audio (WMA) and WAV.
OELD or LCD is usually used to display images. With the help of accessories, some of these players can also record video. JPEG format for display of images is used in all the players. File formats including PNG, TIFF and GIF are compatible with some players like the iPod series. MPEG-4 video format is supported by most of the players. Some others support the AVI and Windows Media Video (WMV). Transfer of files between the computer and players is possible with most players. These portable devices are manufactured and marketed by many electronic firms. For instance a French company, Archos, offers portable video players, digital audio players, personal digital assistant and digital video recorders. Archos released its Generation 5 series of portable media players in 2007. The series included Archos 705 WiFi 160GB .
The hard drive, flash memory or microdrive is used to store the data. There has been a steady increase in the storage capacity going up to 320 GB in the case of the hard drive PMPs and up to 32 GB for the flash memory based PMPs. The storage capacity of PMPs can also be enhanced. Content transfer can be done using Secure Digital card, CompactFlash and Memory Sticks directly from external devices. The screen size of the display screen has risen to 7 inches. Resolutions vary from player to player and may go up to WVGA. The color depth ranges from 16-bit, which is normal, to 24-bit in some players. After the launch of the Touch Screen technology, many PMPs have integrated this feature into their players. Even more new features were integrated into the PMPs in the recent past such as the editors, game emulation, the simple camera and text readers.
The Emergence of MP3 Players
Posted by 0845 Telephone Numbers in General on July 30th, 2009
MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 or in short, MP3, is the common audio format used to transfer music to the digital audio player and playing back. Moving Picture Experts Group designed MP3. This Group consisted of Fraunhofer of Germany, CCETT, AT&T-Bell Labs of USA and Thomson-Brandt, besides others. The ISO/IEC standard was conferred on MP3 in 1991.
MP3 reduces the amount of data for recording and yet it maintains the original quality of the uncompressed audio. The MP3 can compress a CD file to one-tenth its size with a mid-range bit rate setting of 128 kbits/s. This compression is done by auditory masking. The first MP3 software encoder was released in 1994. The file extension name was initially .bit which was changed to .mp3 in 1995. Winplay3 was the first real time software released in the same year. Audio files began to be converted to MP3 files and played back in personal computers. MP3 soon spread on the Internet. The release of Winamp in 1997 and the Unix audio player mpg123 in 1998 further popularized MP3. By the later part of 1997, MP3 was being offered free at mp3.com. Peer to peer transferring of music files that are ripped from compact discs rapidly increased. Napster, launched in 1999, assisted large scale peer to peer file sharing. No doubt there was an outcry of violations of copyright leading to loss to recording companies. This was also followed by a spate of allegations and litigations.
MP3 players are of three types. They are the hard drives, micro hard drives and flash based MP3 players. The hard drive based MP3 players is heaviest and largest amongst them. Their capacity is as large as ten gigabytes and more, and is able to hold some 2,900 MP3 files. Similar to this is the micro hard rive based players but with lesser internal storage capacity and smaller size. Their capacity is only six gigabytes which can hold about 1,700 MP3 files. Both hard rive and micro hard drive based MP3 players come with rechargeable batteries. The most compact of them is the flash based MP3 players as it does not have any moving parts. They use very little power. Their internal storage capacity is also very low and range from 32 megabytes to only two gigabytes. With the introduction of WiFi connectivity, it became possible to download music from the Internet. The first such one that was introduced was Sandisk Sansa Connect MP3 player.
Unauthorized sharing of music files is extensive. There are also many companies that sell music in MP3 format such as Xiie.net, Juno Records, Bleep, eMusic, Beatport, Zune Marketplace and Amazon.com. Disputes relating to patent and licensing over MP3 involve Thomson Consumer Electronics, Sisvel S.p.A., Fraunhofer Institute, Texas MP3 Technologies, SanDisk, Samsung Electronics, Apple, Alcatel-Lucent and Texas MP3 Technologies, besides others.

Never Grow Up

My cute little and adorable kids love cartoons, and, why not admit it, so do I, and I’m no kid. We like spending our evenings in front of the TV, or laptop, and watching some new cartoons. They’re more into “The PowerPuff Girls”, while I’m more into “Dexter’s Laboratory”, so we tend to argue a little, but we eventually come to an agreement.
I have tried to share with them my all-time passion for Disney cartoons, but after a few attempts I had to give it up. They fancy watching Cartoon Network more than watching Sleeping Beauty, so they convinced me to watch TV with them, even if I’m still in love with my classic Disney cartoons.
They like watching cartoons so much that they asked me to get them something so they could watch their favorite episodes while going on trips, or on brakes at school. While I was against this at first, their sad faces got to me and I promised them I’d find something good. I decided to get them an mp3 player with video capabilities, and I had a lot of options.
I have come across the sansa view 8gb , which seems just perfect. Any child could easily use it, so I bought two, one for each girl, so that they wouldn’t fight on them. I loaded them up with their favorite cartoons, wrapped them, and made a beautiful surprise to my kids. Their happy dance when they opened the boxes and saw their new players was worth seeing!
They were so excited they took their new players with them everywhere. I also showed them how to load cartoons and music on their new players. Now I’m free to watch my Disney cartoons whenever I want, and I even uploaded some “Tom and Jerry” for them to watch. They seem to like them so far!
Buying a New Mp3 Player
Posted by 0845 Telephone Numbers in General on June 6th, 2009
Some people are addicted to gambling, or drinking. I am addicted to music. My most important thing is my mp3 player, and I never leave home without it. Not even when going jogging, or to the market. I feel like something’s missing if I don’t have it with me. Even though it’s gotten quite old, I don’t feel the need for a newer one.
Things don’t always go according to plan, however, and my plan of not changing it flew out the window, at the supermarket. Or should I say, flew out of my pocket, like my mp3 player did when the headphone cable got caught in something.
Seeing it hit the ground and break into a thousand pieces made me think of only one thing: I was not going to leave this place until I buy another mp3 player. I went to the electronics isle and started looking for one that seemed suitable. The big mp3 players with large screens did look good, but I didn’t know if I had room for them in my pocket. I was not sure what to get, at all.
The zen v plus 2 gb that was on sale looked interesting and my wallet liked it too. Things on sale are usually good, or at least that’s what I think. When I heard from the lady at the cash register how quickly they’ve been selling, I was even more happy with my purchase. I liked its color and overall looks, and the visual improvement over my old mp3 player was obvious.
My decision seems even better now, after some time has passed and I’ve become more used to the player. It has so many things that my previous player didn’t have, that I wonder how I’ve lived without them for so long. The sound quality is also far superior to my older player, and I can’t even begin to compare them, when it comes to design. Another one of my great choices!
