Europe’s Hylas-1 broadband satellite is launched

A satellite that promises to bring broadband Internet to several areas of Europe was successfully launched late Friday from the European Spaceport in French Guiana. The Hylas 1 satellite will cover the UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and eastern Europe via eight regional spot beams. It’s service is targeted at areas of the countries where the wired broadband infrastructure is not available or is available at slow speeds.
