Joys of Playing Strategy Games

In gaming, the category of strategy games has been my admired. I have always found that the best gaming experience is delivered by strategy games. I think some people feel strategy games are not good because they don’t have graphics as good as other type of kinds. Another drawback I have heard people say is that you are not directly involved in the game as units in the game are playing on your behalf and you don’t necessarily have complete control over the units. One more issue I heard from people is that strategy gaming is too time consuming or slow compared to a first person shooter game.

One of the reasons I like strategy games is that it is a lot alike to board games. It gives you an outside perspective, and lets you plan your possible moves. The appeal of strategy games is partly based on the fact that it is fundamentally similar to board games, and as such some gamers find it appealing. Turn Based Games and Real Time Based Games are two types of strategy games. In turn based games, each player takes a turn like chess, and plans out his possible moves. As a player completes his turn, the opponent in the game get his chance to react to the moves made by the other player and implement his own counter strategy. In this way, turn based games are very much like your regular old board games – everyone takes a turn to play his game. In real time games, players play simultaneously. As opponents plan and execute their moves, gamers react to these moves and implement their own to counter each other. In this way, strategy games are much faster, and more entertaining than turn based strategy games.

Among strategy games, Age of Empires, Empire Total War, and Red Alert have been by far my admired strategy games. Among the strategy games I recall playing, Civilization 3 was one of them.I was completely into it even though it was a turn based game. Besides Civilization 3, the other strategy games that I thoroughly enjoyed were Age of Empires II and Starcraft. I played Age of Empires quite extensively, and it was graphically superior in every way to Civilization 3. It has been a while since I have played Civilization 3, and now there is a possibility that Civilization 5 might be released or is development stage. Since I have missed a lot of strategy games during the time I was in college, I can’t wait to see how the new Civ 5 game turns out.
